Donating your time is a vital contribution to our organization. W&FLC has several voluer opportunities throughout the year including a variety of special projects, programs, board service, committee service, staffing events, and general office support. Volunteers should have strong communication, writing and computer skills and are expected to demonstrate general work-related skills such as punctuality, responsibility, and thoroughness. "Everyone was always transparent with me about what was going on at the center, and kept me in the loop when things would change. I truly felt like I was a part of the team, and it was refreshing.
As an MSW intern, I was able to get firsthand experience working with clients, and engaging with the community. In a professional capacity, learning how to manage the phone lines, write emails on behalf of participants and document accordingly have strengthened my writing and communication skills as a future social worker. Interning at the W&FLC gave me the chance to work with participants who are facing real life challenges and life transitions."
AB, MSW Fall 2022/Spring 2023 Intern
"I feel so lucky that I was able to be a part of the organization, even if only for a few months. The experiences that I have had here have allowed me to advance further in my career path but have also made me appreciate the opportunity to be involved in an organization that cares so deeply about their interns and the experiences that they have. Interning at the W&FLC has given me an even deeper appreciation for the field of social work in general as well as for those who are involved in the field and for the client populations that I will be serving."
ED, MSW Fall 2022/Spring 2023 Intern
"The goals I set to achieve before beginning this internship were to learn the day-to-day functions of the office, gain a better understanding of how a nonprofit organization is funded, and to hopefully contribute to the fundraising efforts. I am very pleased to say that I was able to accomplish all of these goals and more."
"The highlight of my internship was joining the team of compassionate, confident, and intelligent women who take such pride in their work. I have always been attracted to working in an environment with great camaraderie and team-building, and I absolutely found that with the W&FLC. Their passion for helping women and families kept me motivated."
MH, Undergrad Spring 2023 Intern
